UNREAL ENGINE

lEARNING UNREAL ENGINE

JAPANESE TOWN

LEVEL - WORLD - ENVIRONMENT DESIGN

For this project, the purpose of it was to get acquainted with Unreal Engine's interface.

This Japanese town is the first Level design I have created. Using assets from the Marketplace, I designed the Layout of the town, Textured all the assets using Substance Painter, Created the materials, and did some Lighting experimentations.

cinematic features of unreal engine

My main background is in Previs and Layout. I wanted to push and develop my Cinematic skills using Unreal Engine.

This project pushed me outside my comfort zone as a lot of theory had to be put to practice straight away. This project was completed within a month.

- I went to visit a woodland to gather reference images and videos to help with this project. I also did some camera tests that helped with my storyboards and Concept designs.
- Acquiring Megascans from Quixel Bridge, I used them to design and create the Layout of the environment.
- For my character, I designed a Metahuman and retargeted Mocap Animation data for her to move. I blended in different animations and cleaned up the keyframes.
- I learned how to use the Camera sequencer and how to use the Cinematic Actors of Unreal Engine to 'shoot' a movie.
- Using the references I collected, I used them as inspiration for the lighting setup of my environment.
